ProviderOfTom's Super Ultra Optimal Playing Guide For War of the Whiskers!
So you want to be a top War of the Whiskers player, huh? Let me tell you how to play this fantastic game in the most effective way that'll earn you wins like no other. Let's get started.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
General Game Plan - War of the Whiskers favors a hit and run style play at the highest level. You want to get a slight lead and control the game from there. The difficulty of this varies depending on the map but camping a lead in this game is very strong. Never push your luck too hard because one mistake and you could lose that lead and the favor of the match could easily go to your opponent quick. Utilize your environment as much as you can and abuse War of the Whisker's powerful defensive gameplay to your best potential. Play smart with a lead and the game should stick in your favor.
Picking Your Character - Let's face it, some characters in this game suck. Hard. That's why if you plan to become the best of the best, I recommend picking a handful of characters, mainly Monster Jerry, Spike, Lion and Tom. These characters have good damage and good health which is a necessity in this game since everyone plays identically. Monster Jerry and Tom have fast berserk build while still maintaining good stats which is why they're on the recommendations as well. Speaking of berserk...
Berserk And How To Use It - Berserk is one of the most useful tools in this game. In a campy game like this, you might be thinking "couldn't I just run away and run out their berserk time?" You can, and that's what I recommend you do if someone else has berserk, but let me tell you why berserk is so good. As I said earlier, this is a defensive game and getting a lead is absolutely KEY. With a lead, you can force the opponent to play by your rules as you control the pace. Berserk is one of those tools to help do that. If you're able to control the match and build berserk while keeping your distance from the opponent, you'll have access to a move that gives you a second of invincibility instantly and a good amount of time where you can't take damage (will still flinch) and do massively increased damage. In a defensive game, this is POWERFUL. Your opponent has to think twice about approaching because you have a button that sends you into a god mode and at the same time, this will apply more pressure after it's said and done because you'll have ran the timer a decent bit while in berserk. They try to taunt to build their own berserk? Body slam them and further the lead! Are they scared to approach you? Let them be scared! They only have 2 minutes in a match to get that lead back! One thing about berserk that I will mention is that if both you and your opponent both have berserk, use your berserk first and then stick to them. If they decide to berserk, time a body slam as soon as their invincibility ends and you'll get a free hard punish.
Stages - For the final part of my guide, let me list off the ways to playing on certain stages optimally.
Some Like It Hotter: Knocking off your opponent on this 1v1 stage deals huge damage and gives you a free taunt to build your berserk. ABUSE THIS! This stage forces a fight more often because there is a big platform and then a small one, but it is still possible to play very defensively once you have a lead. The small platform allows the camping player to be safe and makes it dangerous to approach because of the size of the platform. Also beware using berserk near the edge as you can be pushed off by the opponent.
Unfurgiven: This stage is very straightforward. It's a multi level stage so get that lead quickly and abuse the tall house and the stage's poor design allowing you to 360 the map easily keeping your distance from the opponent.
Frankenmouse: Beware the electricity in the front of the stage and the electricity that spawns every now and then in the middle. There are a couple of spots such as the computer and the tall part in the back that allows to camp a lead. Use them.
Scrapyard: The top spot where the cars stack up are your best bet to playing safe. If in a good spot, you can knock the opponent into the stage hazard for some extra damage and it will allow you to get two taunts off to build that berserk meter.
Haunted Mouse: The start here is fairly neutral so get your lead and try to camp the window to the left side. Beware the ghost that spawns there, though, as you will lose a decent chuck of HP and drop some HP for the opponent as well.
Luncheons and Dragons: Get a lead and instantly head for the top part. Because it takes a decent time to climb this, you might be able to get a taunt in if the distance is good enough. Knowing when the dragon is coming can increase your camp potential as the opponent has less room to make their way up. Be wary against the walls in this stage, as just about every wall is destructible and can cause some damage if you're knocked into them.
